Company Runs Wreck with Entrapment

At 12:55 HRS. on Friday February 2nd. 2007 the company was dispatched for an auto accident (unknown injuries) in the 900 block of Cypress Street. Ambulance 23 was responding on dispatch, after clearing a prior call. Ambulance 23 under the direction of 23-20 was advised right after dispatch that NGPD was on location and changing the location to the entrance of the People Bank of Oxford at West Cypress Street and Cedar Springs Road, they also advised 4 patients and they were requesting 4 additional BLS, and an ALS unit. Ambulance 23 added 2 additional BLS, and the ALS unit for the time being, which brought Ambulance 24-2, MICU 25-2 and Medic 94-2. Deputy 23 (Cole Jr.) went responding at 12:57 HRS. and the radio room advised they were now upgrading the incident to entrapment, which added 24 for a pumper-rescue and the 2nd. Medic from 94. Ambulance and Deputy 23 arrived on scene at 12:59 HRS. to find a 3 vehicle MVA blocking 1 lane of traffic. One subject confirmed trapped in the car and Deputy 23 established the “Cypress Street Command”, while Ambulance 23 did patient triage. Fire Police were requested to close Cypress Street and Thompson Road. A 3rd. BLS unit was added bringing Ambulance 22-1. Engine 23-1 under direction of Captain 23 (J. Decker Jr.) and Engine 24-1 under direction of Lieutenant Ely both arrived at 1305 HRS. Command had the crew from Engine 23-1 remove the passenger side doors of the vehicle using the “Hurst” combo tool to access the patient. Crews from Engine 24-1 split off assisting with patient packaging and vehicle hazards. Chief 23 (M. Decker) arrived at 1310HRS and established “Cypress Street C.P.” Extrication was complete at 1311 HRS. EMS units transported to various hospitals. Companies cleared incident at 1406 HRS.
