Serious Accident on Starr Road
Date: June 13, 2008
By: Asst. Chief Augie Testa
At approximately 2115 hrs on Friday 6/13/08, the company was dispatched with Medic 94 for the auto accident with reported entrapment at the intersection of Penn Green and Starr Roads. Chief 23 arrived on scene moments later and updated the location to Starr Road south of Penn Green. The Chief also requested Blittersdorf's Towing to the scene due to the nature of entrapment and difficulty of access. Crews were faced with the challenge of a heavily damaged vehicle with a subject trapped underneath down a 15 foot steep embankment in very heavy brush and woods. Blittersdorf's used one of their wreckers to lift the vehicle off of the subject so crews could gain access. Unfortunately it was determined that the patient had succumbed to their injuries prior to our arrival. All crews from all agencies worked together in an excellent manner to bring this difficult scene under control. All units cleared the scene at 2345 hrs.
The Avondale Fire Company expresses its sincere condolences to all affected by this tragedy.
