Assist 22 On a Kitchen

Date: June 21, 2008
By: Firefighter John Morris IV

Saturday Morning at 09:51 hours Station 23 was alerted to Assist Station 22 (West Grove) with a house fire on Rosehill Road. Engine 23-2 along with Tanker 23 made the response shortly after dispatch. Chief officers from 22 arrived on scene and reported that the fire was in the kitchen and appeared to be out. They held the incoming apparatus to Engine 22 and 23-2. They requested Engine 23-2 respond into the scene to assist with ventilation. The rest of the company which made the full response was released. Crews from Engine 22 and Engine 23-2 removed parts of the burnt cabinets and pulled the burnt stove away from the wall. Ventilation was set up to remove the remaining smoke from the dwelling. Crews were released at 10:39 hours.

Luckily a brave member of the family grabbed a fire extinguisher which was close by and extinguished the majority of the fire before fleeing the home. It is extremely important to have a fire extinguisher in your home for these exact situations. Great job by the family and fire crews for making a quick stop.
