Fire Prevention 2008 "Prevent Home Fires" a Success
Date: October 11, 2008
By: Firefighter John Morris IV
This past week Sr. Hosemen Rick Franks, Firefighters Morris IV, Bubbles, and Mattson along with Chauffeurs Davis Howell and Rich Testa traveled to six different learning institutions in the area to talk to children about fire prevention. Members talked to the children about how to stop, drop and roll while covering their face if their clothes were to catch fire. They instructed the children to know two ways out of their house and how to crawl from their house if there was a fire. Avondale members also stressed to the children the importance of having one and only one meeting place outside of their homes to meet in case of an emergency. After going over other important fire safety tips a member would put on his turnout gear along with an SCBA (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus). This was done so the children could become familiarized with what a firefighter would look like coming to aid them and help make them not be afraid. Once the firefighter had all his gear on he continued the tradition of giving all the children "high fives" to show that he was their friend and there to help. The Officers and Members of the Avondale Fire Company would like to thank all the schools and daycares for participating in fire prevention and we look forward to seeing everyone again next year. If you ever have any questions regarding a fire safety or prevention issue please feel free to contact the firehouse!
