Company Trains With New Hurst Rescue Struts

Date: June 18, 2008
By: Firefighter John Morris IV

On Wednesday June 18th members utilized their weekly drill night to train on the companies newly acquired rescue struts. These struts are used to stabilize vehicles after an accident so emergency crews can extricate patients safely from the wreck. Members gathered at the Station and headed to Blittersdorf Towing and Salvage where cars had been set up to train on. Members practiced setting up and applying the struts to the unstable vehicles. Near the end of the night the company was alerted for an oven fire at Past Chief Mike Decker's home. The company made the full response to find that luckily the incident was contained to the interior of the oven.

Thursday crews met at the firehouse for the second night of training with the newly acquired Rescue Struts and Rescue Tools. John from Guardian Fire Equipment was the instructor for the night and put on an excellent class. Crews practiced applying the struts to the rolled over and upended vehicles. The new hurst tools which were recently placed into service were also used.

***Thanks to John from Guardian Fire Equipment for putting on a great class and Blittersdorf Towing and Salvage for donating the cars and their time!***
