Auto Accident with Fire on Newark Road

On Monday morning March 9, 2009 at 0113 hours the Chester County Fireboard dispatched the Avondale Fire Company to an auto accident in the 1000 block of Newark Road.  At 0114 hours the assignment was re-dispatched and up-graded to an auto accident overturned with fire adding Medic 94 (SCCEMS).   Deputy 23 (Cole Jr.) arrived on-scene at 0116 hours to find one automobile on its side and well involved with fire.  NGPD advised Deputy 23 they had one subject out of the vehicle, but still had possible entrapment.   Due to the fire spreading rapidly entrapment could not be determined.  The fire also started spreading up an electrical utility pole towards high tension power lines; a response from PECO was requested.  Deputy 23 established the “Newark Road CP”, while Assistant 23 (M. Decker) handled “Command”.  Ambulance 23-1 and Medic 94-2 arrived on scene and tended to the injured subject.   Engine 23-1 (Captain Carroll) arrived and pulled an 1 ¾” hand line for fire suppression. Ambulance 23-1 and Medic 94-2 transported the one patient.  Engine 23-2 (Rochester) arrived and supplied water to Engine 23-1 and assisted the crew of Engine 23-1.  Medic 94-1 arrived and stood-by.  Once the fire was knocked-down it was determined that no other victims were involved.  The situation was placed under control at 0135 hours and Medic 94-1 was released.  Crews remained on scene assisting with lighting, and clean up until 0227 hours.
