On Wednesday April 28th, 2009 at approximately 2021 hours the Avondale fire company along with Micu 25 (Longwood),  Ambulance 22 (West Grove), and N.C.C. Rescue 17 (Five Points) who was covering the 23 local while our crews attended a training night at Montgomery County Fire Academy,  for an accident with entrapment on Route  1 south of Newark road.  Moments after dispatch, Chief 23 (Swift), Micu 25, Engine 23-2 and Rescue 17 responded.  While en-route Chief 23 received a phone call from a passer by stating that the patient was still in the car and in bad condition, therefore the Chief put Sky Care 1 on stand-by and confirmed the entrapment.  When Rescue 17 arrived the crew started to extricate the patient by cutting the “A” post, and folding the roof down.  The crew from Engine 23-2 helped with extrication and patient packaging.  During the extrication the crew from Micu 25 made the decision to “Fly the bird”. FM101 (Owens) had the LZ.  Ambulance 22 was recalled shortly after the units arrived on scene. Sky care 1 flew one patient to Crozer, and Micu 25 was clear of the scene shortly after take-off.   All units cleared the scene at approximately 2125 hours.
