Working Pool House Fire on Penn Green Road

Date: March 25, 2009
By: Firefighter John Morris IV

On Wednesday, March 25, members gathered at the firehouse at 1900 hours to continue the Vehicle Rescue Technician Class. Just as everyone was beginning to settle in the company was dispatched at 2006 hours for the smoke investigation outside. Seconds later Chester County Fire Board upgraded the call to an outbuilding stating a woman was on scene with a fire in a pool house with a dwelling as an exposure. This added Station 22 (West Grove) for the full company to the call. Engine 23-2 under the command of Captain Carroll responded moments later. Due to the large member turnout for the class Engine 23-2 was immediately followed by Tanker 23, Engine 23-1, Engine 23-3 and Ambulance 23-2. Engine 23-2 arrived on scene and reported a working fire in a pool house. Firefighters Morris IV and Raubfogle stretched a line to the interior where a small fire was beginning to extend up into the walls. Crews knocked the fire down and opened up the walls to expose any hidden fire. With the quick knock on the fire command recalled all West Grove Units. FMs 101 and 102 responded to the scene and determined the cause of the fire was electrical. Crews cleared at 2209 hours after extensive overhaul.
