Working Building Fire Off Baltimore Pike Date: January 9, 2009 On Friday January 9th at 1734 hours Avondale Fire Company along with Station 24 (Kennett) and Ladder 22 (West Grove) were alerted for a building fire in the 1200 Block of Baltimore Pike. Deputy 23 (being in the area) arrived within seconds after dispatch and reported heavy smoke from the building and confirmed a working fire in the building. Engine 23-2 went enroute at 1737 under the command of Captain 23 (Carroll). Upon arrival Deputy 23 requested the crew (Morris IV, Franks, and Wilkins) stretch an 1 3/4 handline into the building and extinguish the fire. While Engine 23-2's crew was knocking the fire down Engine 23-1, 24-1 (Kennett) and Tanker 23 arrived on scene. Interior crews notified Deputy 23 that the fire was knocked down and the decision was made to hold Ladder 22 and the remaining apparatus from Station 24. Crews worked for approximately an hour.
