Working Basement Fire

During a class on Wednesday April 7, 2010 station 23 along with 22 and 12 and New Castle County Station 19 for an Engine were dispatched at 21:33 hours for a building fire in the 8800 block of Gap Newport Pike. With Engine 23-2 out of service, Rescue 23 went enroute shortly after dispatch. Police went on scene reporting heavy smoke showing from a garage door that lead to the basement. Rescue 23 arrived on scene and crews pulled an 1.75" handline. Next arriving crews were ordered to go to the first floor to ventilate and check for extension. Crews made entrance into the basement and extinguished the fire. Overhaul operations went into effect and units were clear by 23:22 hours.
