Gas Leak Outside

On October 25, 2010 at 10:32 Station 23 was dispatched for a gas leak outside in front of 834 Gap Newport Pike. Deputy 23 (Cole) arrived onscene with an active gas leak in front of Abernethys Auto Body Shop and assumed Route 41 Command. Upon the arrival of Rescue 23 (Franks), the crew assisted in the evacuation of the surrounding construction zone. The section of Gap Newport Pike between Baltimore Pike and the Route 1 bypass were shutdown with the assistance of Ambulance 22-3 and Ambulance 23-2 while Rescue 23 stood by in case of any escalation to the leak until fire police arrived. Route 41 Command requested a fire police taskforce. Twenty five minutes after crews arrived, Peco arrived on scene and secured the leak. The surrounding area and buildings were checked one more time before people were allowed back to work. Units cleared at 1145 hours.
